Who We Are
Our mission is to inspire curiosity, awareness, and understanding of nature and science through quality educational experiences. Twenty-five years ago, three scientists and educators created a summer camp with the simple goal of creating fun, hands-on nature experiences for kids. The MOSS founders shared a vision that our lives are enriched when we have a greater understanding of our natural surroundings. Today, MOSS envisions a future where Montanans have a strong connection with nature, understand and value the natural sciences, and are inspired to care for this extraordinary place we call home. As Montana Outdoor Science School approaches our 25th anniversary we’re even more committed to the initial vision set forth by our founders.
What We Do
MOSS engages kids in grades K-8 with hands-on outside exploration and learning experiences to foster a love for the outdoors. MOSS serves more than 4,500 students each year through year-round courses for all ages and backgrounds including outreach programs to 44 schools, 10 weeks of summer camps for 500 students, and free family festivals that celebrate our natural resources.
