Needs From: Greater Gallatin United Way

Volunteer: Day of Action: Painting Exterior of the previous Help Center location

Help us paint and clean up the place that once housed Help Center; located at 421 East Peach Street.

The Help Center emerged from an increasing concern about drug problems in the Gallatin Valley among high school and college students. In February 1971, a small group of parents and citizens formed Parents and Children (PAC) with the goal to find a way and a means to provide help to people whenever they needed it, specifically with drugs. The founders quickly realized they would need broad-based community support if it were to succeed. On March 22nd, 1971, the Gallatin Council on Health and Drugs (now Help Center, Inc.) incorporated as a private nonprofit. As a result, a 24-Hour crisis intervention center opened, which remains to this day. As community needs emerged, our organization responded to create programs and services in response. In 1986, we opened Sacks Thrift as a fundraising arm for our organization as well as a place to recycle goods and provide affordable merchandise to the community. In 1996, the Sexual Assault Counseling Center was established to provide trauma-informed services to survivors. In 2012, we merged with an established nonprofit, Hearts & Homes, to offer supervised family visitation and supportive family services. In 2015, the Gallatin County Child Advocacy Center was opened to provide a safe and child-friendly space for youth survivors to report abuse and receive wrap-around family services.

Volunteer: Donation Sorter

Sacks depends on the generous donations of goods from the community! We have a small team of employees, but in order to keep up with the demand of donation drop-offs, we have a great need for someone who is able to commit to a consistent role. This position involves frequent lifting, at times over 25 pounds, and being on your feet. Being in this role allows you to see cool stuff as it comes through, where you will undoubtedly find something for yourself to take home! Volunteers that commit to 8 hours a month receive 50% purchases.

Help separate the clean, resellable items into loose categories, recycle what we can't sell, and greet customers.

The store hours are from 9am - 6pm Monday - Saturday but we need people processing donations on Tuesdays Thursday and Saturdays between 9am and 2pm.

We allow our volunteers to make their own schedules, we just ask that you communicate that schedule to the Staff and do at least a 2 hour shifts or longer.
