Mission: To promote and ensure non-discrimination in Montana through outreach, education, dispute resolution, and enforcement.
Montana Fair Housing (MFH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting fair housing practices and ensuring equal access to housing for all individuals, regardless of their membership in federally or state-protected classes. Guided by federal and state laws, we work to eliminate housing discrimination and foster inclusive communities throughout Montana.
What We Do
At Montana Fair Housing, we focus on protecting individuals and families from housing discrimination and promoting awareness of fair housing rights. Our services include:
- Investigation of Discrimination: We investigate allegations of housing discrimination and provide counseling for victims, guiding them through federal and state complaint processes.
- Legal Assistance: Under specific circumstances, we help victims secure legal representation when filing a court complaint is deemed the best course of action.
- Accessible Housing Resources: We maintain and share a list of wheelchair-accessible housing options that should be available on a non-discriminatory basis.
- Dispute Resolution: Upon request, we provide mediation services to resolve housing-related conflicts.
- Public Education: We raise awareness of federal and state fair housing laws, which prohibit discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including protections for sexual orientation and gender identity), familial status, disability, creed, marital status, and age.
Montana Fair Housing is committed to creating equitable housing opportunities and supporting communities in adhering to fair housing principles.
