Description

Help us paint and clean up the place that once housed Help Center; located at 421 East Peach Street.

The Help Center emerged from an increasing concern about drug problems in the Gallatin Valley among high school and college students. In February 1971, a small group of parents and citizens formed Parents and Children (PAC) with the goal to find a way and a means to provide help to people whenever they needed it, specifically with drugs. The founders quickly realized they would need broad-based community support if it were to succeed. On March 22nd, 1971, the Gallatin Council on Health and Drugs (now Help Center, Inc.) incorporated as a private nonprofit. As a result, a 24-Hour crisis intervention center opened, which remains to this day. As community needs emerged, our organization responded to create programs and services in response. In 1986, we opened Sacks Thrift as a fundraising arm for our organization as well as a place to recycle goods and provide affordable merchandise to the community. In 1996, the Sexual Assault Counseling Center was established to provide trauma-informed services to survivors. In 2012, we merged with an established nonprofit, Hearts & Homes, to offer supervised family visitation and supportive family services. In 2015, the Gallatin County Child Advocacy Center was opened to provide a safe and child-friendly space for youth survivors to report abuse and receive wrap-around family services.
